Overall standout – thoughtfully planned, balanced days
As a more active traveler, I initially had some concerns about the pace of this trip. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find it perfectly balanced, combining active adventure with relaxation. Some days were so full I felt like they were multiple days!
Taking the backseat on logistics and having a set plan every day was amazing. The thoughtfully planned itinerary was so refreshing, and even with a set schedule, I had plenty of free time to read my book and recharge.
This level of detail extended to my time in Quito as well. The night before my Galapagos flight, there was an Infinity-branded note under my door with the details for the next day and emergency contacts. This was a nice touch; I felt like I was in good hands from the start.

Favorite spaces/places on board – the bar & Sundeck
The bar: While the cocktails were certainly a draw, what I truly cherished was the shift in pace it offered after a busy day, setting the perfect tone for each evening. The bar became a natural gathering spot around 5:00 pm, where fellow travelers and I would meet for a pre-dinner drink and perhaps an appetizer, all while watching the sunset as we sailed toward our next adventure. It was a space for sharing stories from the day and unwinding.

Sundeck: Another highlight on board. It was spacious, with plenty of room to lounge in the sun or enjoy the Jacuzzi. Having a few meals up there offered a nice change of pace and scenery. I also loved having the chance to jump into the water directly from the deck. It was fun that even the captain joined in!
With lots of spots to lie out, it was the perfect place to watch the sunrise or sunset.
I often found myself the sole occupant of this upper al fresco deck, peacefully enjoying the sun and a good book. It felt almost surreal to be up there all alone with so much space, a nice change to the usual need to secure the “good spot.”

Cabin Comparisons – balconies & views from bed
My cabin, cabin #4 on the Main Deck, was well-equipped with everything I needed and more. Despite the ship’s small size, the cabins never felt cramped. In fact, the very spacious rooms, featuring a private balcony and modern design in every category, offered a truly high-end experience. A particularly delightful feature was that the beds were positioned to face the window. Waking up to the peaceful island landscapes, I’d open the sliding glass door and lay back in bed – it was magical. My cabin’s convenient location on the same deck as the main dining area and muster station made transitioning between activities effortless.

If I were to book again as a solo traveler, I would consider a Standard cabin on the Upper Deck. While my Main Deck stateroom offered more than enough space, an Upper Deck location would provide a nice change of scenery. Since the majority of the daytime is spent on the Main Deck, being on an upper level might offer a more secluded and private feel, perhaps with less foot traffic outside the cabin.
For more room to relax and connect if you’re traveling with family or friends, I’d recommend Suite #8 paired with cabin #10. This option features a convenient connecting door, a dedicated seating area for your group, brighter interiors and better views from a larger sliding glass door, and a more spacious bathroom with a larger window.
What Sets The Ship Apart – unique capacity & flexibility
There’s no shortage of 16-passenger yachts in the Galapagos, but Infinity is among a small number of ones that carry 20 guests. I really enjoyed this added capacity as a single traveler, allowing for more chances to make new friends but still not being on a larger ship. I particularly loved all the quick transitions (no waiting around to get off the boat). You simply put on your life vest and go.
There were multiple different generations on my trip, and we all effortlessly fostered connections. The diverse group ensured that meals were always entertaining, filled with amazing travel stories that became a highlight for everyone.
Activity flexibility also made Infinity stand out. They broke us up into two groups for activities. For walks, we’d have one “power walking” group and the other one would not have to rush. We were often told that if you wanted to return from an activity early, the Zodiacs could transfer you.
You could choose a walk or a kayak twice during my 5-day trip. If more people wanted to kayak, they would do two groups throughout the day to let everyone get a chance. This never happened, but it was nice to know it was an option.

Don’t Miss – lingering for unexpected treats
Don’t rush off to your cabin after each activity. From hot chocolate after a rainy snorkel to refreshing iced tea after an active hike, Infinity always welcomed us back on board with a treat! Often paired with a bite to eat, they made sure to always refuel us.
And don’t sneak off to bed just yet! Witness a shark show after dinner. After a BBQ dinner on the Sundeck, we headed down to the swim platform where we watched Galapagos sharks feed on flying fish. Just a hand’s touch away, it was thrilling to watch.

You have questions.
We have answers.
Best wildlife moment – being amid hundreds of dolphins
There were almost too many amazing wildlife encounters to pick one, but if I had to nail it down, I would say the surprise dolphin show. We were out on a panga exploring the coastline looking at blue-footed boobies, sea lions and marine iguanas when a guest spotted something jumping through the air. We quickly diverted from our planned route to watch as hundreds of dolphins surged past our skiff. Fins sliced through the water in every direction we looked.
Everyone was in awe, gasping and excitedly snapping pictures, completely absorbed in the moment. Having the flexibility to adapt our excursion to the unfolding wildlife spectacle made it truly special. Being on a nimble skiff allowed us to get remarkably close to these magnificent creatures without disturbing their natural behavior.

Look Out For – Obstructed Cabin Views
Support beams on each side of the vessel cause an obstructed view for a few different cabins. Looking out their sliding glass doors, Cabins #1 & #2 have obstructed views from the bottom, and Cabins #9 & #10 have obstructed views from the top. The only obstructed views in my Cabin #4 were in the bathroom; the bathroom mirror allowed for some views out, but this could also be something to consider. The bathrooms for Cabins #5 & #6 appear to have minimal views from a porthole window. For optimal viewing, select Suite #7 or #8 and enjoy fully unobstructed views.

If I Booked Again – I’d stay longer in Ecuador
I was really happy with my 5-day itinerary exploring the Southern Galapagos Islands. But note that 5-day routes in the Galapagos are really only 3 full days. Some people on my cruise were doing a more comprehensive 8-day route, so had already been aboard for 4 days by the time I got on the ship. Split routes like this are common in the Galapagos, so this can be something to consider as you choose your dates. The departure following mine was a seamless 8-day Western Islands route with all the same passengers for the whole week.
But my experience was great, so if I were to do it again, I’d just have added on an Amazon trip to create an amazing contrast of experiences. Given the travel time from the U.S. West Coast, extending the trip with some extra days to immerse myself in the destination feels like a smart move.
