History of Angermeyer Waterfront Inn
Gus Angermeyer was among the earliest settlers on the island of Santa Cruz. Inspired by Charles Darwin’s descriptions, he and his brothers left Germany in the early 1930s, bound for the Galapagos islands with a dream of living life in harmony with nature and their surroundings. They settled on the island of Santa Cruz, married and built homes and fishing boats using the natural resources available, mainly lava rocks and wood. Many of these structures are still standing today and are a main part of the atmosphere in the area known as Angermeyer Point. The hotel reception area and café, for example, was where Gus Angermeyer studied in his “cave,” reading the works of Shakespeare and Einstein and recounting his amazing adventures to friends.
