Why Sail Aboard World Explorer

Choose the World Explorer ship for a fast, action-packed vessel among the most modern sailing today. Notable is her speed; cruising at 16 knots, World Explorer is one of the faster ships playing polar waters, and she does it with great stability. This distinct ship boasts a private walk-out or Juliet balcony for direct ocean views in every cabin, offering unparalleled personal space compared to other expedition ships of her class. Also unique are her outdoor running track and heated outdoor pool. World Explorer represents a new era of expedition ships geared for both active exploration and onboard luxury. Look for standard sailings on both poles, as well as Antarctica air cruise itineraries on this ship.

AdventureSmith Explorations has been aboard the World Explorer firsthand. Read our dedicated World Explorer Ship Review, or consult this page further for a detailed description of the World Explorer, including ship specs, deck plan, cabin images, photo gallery and current links to all the trips she sails. Sustainability Aboard World Explorer

The World Explorer burns Marine Gas Oil (MGO)—a clean burning fuel with a low emission factor that conforms to all international regulations and policies governing disposal of waste at sea. The small polar expedition ship serves only sustainable seafood and uses eco-friendly laundry chemicals and cabin amenities. Every passenger is provided with a reusable water bottle and only recycled, acid-free paper is used on board.

Common Areas Aboard World Explorer

Whether viewing wildlife and taking in the open ocean from the glass-domed Observation Lounge, sipping complimentary cups of coffee or tea in the Explorer Lounge or enjoying the extensive collection of field guides, picture books and reference books in the library, guests feel welcome and at home aboard the World Explorer. The onboard Polar Boutique is stocked with forgotten essentials, plus gear and souvenirs. And the lecture theater-style auditorium easily accommodates everyone on board for presentations and videos that provide education and entertainment. Ship-to-shore satellite communications provide access to email and wireless internet (available throughout the ship), though note that connections can never be guaranteed on remote polar expeditions; usage is data-based and therefore best for texting, basic email and simple communication platforms.

An outdoor running track, gym, sauna, heated outdoor pool, and spa for booking massages, facials, and hair, hand and foot treatments help maintain healthy and relaxing routines while traveling. Advanced (and sometimes same-day) bookings can be made directly at the spa, as well as at the ship’s Reception desk. The spa features change rooms, showers and lockers so you can clean up before returning to your cabin—a bonus for those in shared cabins! At the heated outdoor pool, a shallow children’s area is separated from a deeper saltwater plunge pool. The pool is complemented by two small Jacuzzi tubs—all are available when weather and cruising conditions permit.

Dining Aboard World Explorer

Enjoy breakfast and lunch buffet style (some lunches are also offered via a menu), while dinners are served plated in an open seating atmosphere and with casual dress code. Although meal times may change due to landings and wildlife encounters, you’ll always enjoy three delicious meals a day. Early risers will appreciate small pastries ahead of the full buffet breakfast each day. The daily dinner menu offers a mix of rotating dishes and everyday favorites. And guests with a sweet tooth will appreciate dessert options at both lunch and dinner.

An assortment of fresh-baked cookies and/or pastries are offered in the afternoon, as are hot and cold snacks during cocktail hour. A coffee/tea station is available around the clock, including machine-made espresso drinks. A well-stocked bar is open from mid-morning into the evening with a selection of premium beers, wines, liquors and spirits. Dietary restrictions may be accommodated with prior notice, with the exception of kosher food.

Crew & Guides Aboard World Explorer

The World Explorer features a mix of long-term, tenured guides and those with a few seasons of experience, and a range of ages and backgrounds. All guides are very engaging and knowledgeable, with expertise on topics ranging from history, to wildlife, to ice formations. The 130 crew members aboard World Explorer offer impeccable service to guests numbering up to 172.

Activities Aboard World Explorer

Aboard the World Explorer, days are packed with multiple landings, Zodiac cruises and optional activities like paddling excursions, kayaking, camping and stand-up paddleboarding (additional charge). Added-cost activity groups typically leave the ship first, and return after guests participating in the included activities, but the timing is close and efficiently coordinated.

During your days at sea, enjoy lectures and workshops presented by the expedition team and spend time on deck looking for seabirds and cetaceans (our experts recommend taking advantage of any open bridge opportunities, for viewing from the panoramic sides). Guides are well trained in spotting wildlife and showing off unique polar landscapes with geology and history. An outdoor running track, gym and heated outdoor pool further your options during ocean crossings.
