History & Design at Bear Track Inn
Built and operated by the Olney family, the Bear Track’s log design exudes true Alaskan ambiance and hospitality. The lodge comprises nearly 275 logs and 15,000 total square feet of hand-crafted spruce log construction. No trees were killed to build the inn; Sitka spruce bark beetle previously infected the logs. The Inn first opened in August of 1997 and is located on 97 acres surrounded by large growth forest, open meadows and views of Icy Strait. It is nestled next to a creek full of salmon while in season, and is only a half-mile walk to the beaches of the Icy Strait. Guests might spy black bears, moose, wolves and bald eagles.
