Denali Education Center
The Denali Education Center is a rustic ten-acre campus, just across the Nenana River from Denali National Park. The lodge has 12 guest cabins, a dining hall, a large meeting hall and a solar water heating system. What the campus lacks in terms of luxury accommodations is more than made up for in the beauty of its wild surroundings. Retreat to this simple center to take in the beauty of the park, explore the mysteries of the northern boreal forest and enjoy warm Alaskan hospitality.
Dining at Denali Education Center
The center’s dining hall is home to delicious and healthy regional food in a very casual camp atmosphere. Nearly everything served, right down to the salad dressing, is prepared in house. With notice, Denali Education Center can accommodate most dietary restrictions (i.e. dairy, eggs, soy, gluten, nuts, shellfish, etc.). The center suggests that guests with the most restrictive diets bring some of their favorite snack foods to supplement the available menu. Keep in mind that Denali Education Center is in a remote location (the nearest grocery store is 130 miles away) so it’s essential to provide advance notice of dietary restrictions. Celebrate warm days on the picnic tables overlooking the banks of the river. Watch for cow moose and their young on the opposite shore.Denali Education Center does not serve alcohol. However, the campus is within walking distance of a small store that sells beer and wine. A centrally located cooler is available for storing and chilling beer and wine as well as any medications.
Accommodations at Denali Education Center
At the end of the day, make yourself at home in one of 12 rustic guest cabins. Each cabin has two bedrooms and one shared bathroom. Each bedroom has two double beds. Public restrooms in the dining hall are always open, so there are alternative restrooms available at all hours of the day. Amenities include: linens, soap, heat, electric outlets and views of wild surroundings. The absence of radio, microwave, fridge, hairdryers, etc. encourages you to unplug and get outside. Though if you need to plug in, there are three standard electrical outlets in each guest bedroom and one in each cabin’s bathroom as well. A complimentary Wi-Fi connection allows you to stay in touch with the world beyond Denali if needed.
